VOLUNTEERING WITH PILMENY DEVELOPMENT PROJECT

Pilmeny Development Project is a community based voluntary organisation which has been working in Leith since 1979. From helping at our older people groups, youth clubs or events to befriending, from practical help to our Management Board, our volunteers make a phenomenal difference to our work.

PDP has successfully achieved recognition from Investing In Volunteers for our excellent work with volunteers. The Investing in Volunteers Award is awarded to organisations who have clearly demonstrated a high quality standard of support and work with volunteers.

Pilmeny Development Project Volunteer Roles

  • Youth Work Volunteers: This volunteering role involves assisting the Youth Work Team to deliver arrange of services with children and young people (5-18 yrs old), to assist them to meet their social, educational and recreational needs and develop their capabilities.
  • Social Activities Volunteer: These lively and friendly groups meet once a week/ fortnightly/ month in the afternoon. The groups provide companionship, activities, a cup of tea and a catch up!
  • Older Person Befriender: The befriender will make regular weekly/ fortnightly social contact (in person or phone calls) to individual PDP group members and referrals, to help alleviate social isolation or loneliness.
  • Digital Help for local older people: We are looking for volunteers to pilot this digital inclusion project. The volunteer role is to 1) help with any technical queries/ issues and/ or 2) provide 1:1 lessons with local older people.
  • Transport Volunteers. We are looking for volunteers to help transport participants to social activities, trips out, etc. The roles are 1) Minibus Driver and/or 2) Passenger Assistant – helping passengers on/off minibus and to/from their home/ activity.
  • Communication and Admin Support: This can range from social media volunteers to assisting at events, from fundraising to leaflet distribution, from general office duties to helping create a bi-annual local newsletter. This varied volunteering opportunity can be regular or ad-hoc.
  • Practical Help and Support:  We are hoping to have a team of volunteers who could help on mostly ad-hoc basis to assist older people with shopping, prescription collection, gardening, Foodbank collection, etc.

 

PDP Board Members

Pilmeny Development Project, a long established and well respected registered charity, is looking for new Board Members who are committed to supporting local communities.
Based on Buchanan Street in Leith, PDP offers support to young and older groups and individuals in many diverse ways and also works in partnership with other community organisations.
